Terms of Service

CaughtUp is a document organization and storage tool. It helps you collect, sort, and securely store your own tax documents. CaughtUp does not prepare or file tax returns, and does not provide tax, legal, accounting, or financial advice. No CPA-client, attorney-client, or other professional relationship is created by using this service. Informational content (like document checklists and IRS-website walkthroughs) is general information, not advice for your situation. You are solely responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of your tax filings, and we encourage you to engage a qualified tax professional.

You must be at least 18 years old and located in the United States. This service is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their information.

You retain ownership of every document you upload. You grant us only the limited license needed to host, encrypt, back up, and display your documents back to you — nothing else. We use tax return information solely to provide the service you requested, consistent with 26 U.S.C. §7216 and its regulations; see our Privacy Policy. You can export or delete your documents at any time; deletion is permanent.

Sign-in uses one-time email links, and vault access additionally requires multi-factor authentication. You are responsible for maintaining control of your email account and authenticator device, and for all activity under your account.

Paid plans and their terms (including automatic renewal of the Core subscription and the refund policy) are described on the Pricing and Billing & Refunds pages, which are part of these terms. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive your card number.

Don't upload content you have no right to store, attempt to access another person's data, probe or disrupt the service, or use it for any unlawful purpose. We may suspend accounts that do.

The service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, and we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data (maintain your own copies), or tax penalties and interest. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

The interface is offered in several languages as a convenience. These Terms and our policies are currently authored in English, and the English version controls.

We may update these terms; material changes will be announced in-app or by email with the new effective date. These terms are governed by the laws of the District of Columbia. Questions or disputes: support@caughtup.tax — we commit to responding within 10 business days.
